At a press conference held on Monday, May 14th, the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors formally tapped Chris Olson to take over as Director of DeSoto County’s Fire and Emergency Management Agency. Chris Olson, who has been with the Department since 2008, will take over the position from Chief Bobby Storey. Chief Storey has served as the Director of Fire and EMA since 1997 and will officially retire on June 30th, with Olson assuming the role beginning July 1st.
During his time as Director, Chief Storey was instrumental in efforts to improve the County’s fire ratings, thus saving DeSoto County residents millions of dollars on their home insurance. Chris Olson stated his intention to continue to build on the foundation that was created by Chief Storey, saying "I can't fill his [Bobby Storey's] shoes, but I can follow his footprints."
