Chancery Clerk

Misty Heffner is DeSoto County’s Chancery Court Clerk. The chancery clerk is elected at large for a four-year term. The clerk is responsible for attending all sessions of chancery court and keeping all minute books in which records and directions of the chancellors and proceedings of the court are kept. In addition, the Chancery Clerk serves as the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. The clerk’s duties are set by the Mississippi Code Section 9 Chapter 5. 


The Chancery Clerk's Office is located on the first floor of the DeSoto County Courthouse in Hernando, Mississippi. The duties of the chancery clerk's office are divided into three departments: Land Records, Court Records and Taxes (Delinquent and Homestead).

The Land Records office receives, records, and files documents such as deeds, warranty deeds, etc. The Court Records office processes all cases heard by the chancery court chancellors. The Tax division collects delinquent property taxes and maintains the homestead exemption applications.
