Executive Order 1551: COVID-19 Mandates End Except for Inside Schools and Courts
Governor Reeves lifted state COVID-19 mask mandates outside schools - but masks are still required inside schools and courtrooms.
Executive Order 1551 went into effect at 5pm on April 30, 2021.
*Outdoor School Events: The State no longer requires masks on school grounds or during outdoor school events.
*Masks required Inside Schools: “Every person in Mississippi Shall wear a face covering while inside a school building or classroom.” Exceptions to mask wearing include: sports, swimming, while eating or drinking, medical issues, and younger than 6.
*The school mask mandates ends at the end of the school year or May 31, whichever comes first.
*Court mask mandate and other COVID restrictions are still in place. Those mandates come from the State Supreme Court.
*Capacity limits have been removed for all arenas and venues.
*Previous executive orders removed mask requirements in businesses and organizations.
*People are encouraged to wear a face covering while in public spaces when social distancing is not possible, avoid large gatherings, practice good hand hygiene, and stay home if you feel sick.
*Businesses and non-profits are encouraged to make “reasonable, good faith efforts to comply with the CDC’s and Mississippi State Department of Health’s regulations and guidelines” including screening protocols, encouraging employees wear PPE, social distancing measures, frequent cleanings, and sanitizer available at entryways.
*Personal Care Services (Barbershops, spas, tattoo, etc.) Every employee should be encouraged to wear a face covering, wash hands between each customer, customers should be screened for illness, customers should be encouraged to wear a face covering,
*Schools: “Every person in Mississippi Shall wear a face covering while inside a school building or classroom.” Exceptions to mask wearing include: sports, swimming, while eating or drinking, medical issues, and younger than 6.
*Business, Governments, Schools, and Organizations are still able to implement their own COVID-19 policies that are more restrictive.
