Vaccination Site Staffed by National Guard Closing July 12
After more than six months and nearly 185,000 shots, the State is closing its MSDH Vaccination Site in DeSoto County manned by the National Guard. The current vaccination location at the Community Storm Shelter in Southaven will close Monday, July 12. Health Department workers will continue to provide vaccinations at the DeSoto County Health Department on Mondays and Tuesdays from Noon-4PM.
Many of the GNational Guard at Vaccination Clinicuardsmen were activated in March 2020 to provide COVID-19 testing. Their mission transitioned to vaccinations in January 2021. When they moved to the Landers Center, Guardsmen were vaccinating as many as 1,000+ a day, 5-days a week. When demand diminished, the vaccination site moved to the Community Storm Shelter.
“The National Guardsmen in DeSoto County served as an example of organization, efficiency, and dedication,” said District Four Supervisor Lee Caldwell. “They never wavered. They worked in the snow, rain, and heat and kept smiling.”
Vaccination appointments can be made on the Health Department's website or via phone 877-978-6453. There are also dozens of other vaccination providers in DeSoto County listed on the State’s website .
