Household Hazardous Waste Day

Household Hazardous Waste items

DeSoto County's Household Hazardous Waste Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 15 from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Landers Center.

Environmental Services is offering a safe way for residents to dispose items classified as hazardous household waste. The collection event is a community service funded by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality in cooperation with the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors. 

Hazardous Household Waste is any unused or left-over portions of products containing toxic chemicals. Any product which is labeled CAUTION, POISONOUS, TOXIC, FLAMMABLE, or CORROSIVE should not be disposed of with regular household waste.

Acceptable Items:

  1. LED Bulbs
  2. Acids
  3. Aerosol Cans
  4. Chlorine Bleach
  5. Flammable Liquids
  6. Motor Oil
  7. Antifreeze
  8. Car Batteries
  9. Lighter Fluid 
  10. All Paints
  11. Pesticides/Fungicides/Herbicides
  12. Poisons
  13. Pool Chemicals

Tire Recycling:  Limit of 5 tires per citizen.

  3. Compressed Cylinders
  4. Explosive Materials
  5. Radioactive Materials
  6. Medical Waste
  7. Waste from Business
  8. Commercial Waste

DATE: Saturday, May 15, 2021

TIME: 8:00am until 12:00pm

LOCATION: The Landers Center in Southaven in the southwest corner parking lot at Venture Drive and Turman Drive.
