Ingrams Mill Bridge Reopening Delayed

Ingrams Mill Rd Bridge construction

The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors wants to thank everyone for their patience during the Ingrams Mill Bridge replacement project.  The reopening of the bridge is expected by early August.  The Board understands this is later than expected, but the delay is necessary for the safety of drivers.

In April, the County’s engineering firm discovered substandard beams during construction review.  Cracks in some of the center beams were noted and brought to the contractor’s attention. “We are grateful you found those issues now, before the bridge is finished,” said District Three Supervisor Ray Denison.

The beam manufacturer suggested making repairs on site, which would have created minimal delays. “That is unacceptable,” said District Five Supervisor Michael Lee.  “The only acceptable action here is to get new beams,” said District Four Supervisor Lee Caldwell.  The Board unanimously voted to have the contractor replace all five center beams.

The removal and replacement of the beams set the project back about a month.  Rain and dirt issues are also creating delays.  The bridge is in Supervisor Jessie Medlin’s district.  “I’ll take heat from the public about the road being closed to ensure the safety of the people traveling that road,” said Medlin.

The Board of Supervisors will notify the public when it receives a confirmed opening date.
