Court Rules

(Effective January 1, 2024)

  • Absolutely NO cell phones or other electronic devices allowed in the courtroom. 
  • No Vaping allowed in the Justice Center.
  • Do NOT approach court personnel in the courtroom unless your name is called.
  • No weapons of any kind allowed.
  • No food or beverages allowed in courtroom.
  • Excessive talking and/or bad attitudes will not be tolerated.
  • No sleeping.

Dress Code

(Effective January 1, 2024)

  • No halter tops, tank tops or muscle shirts allowed.
  • No revealing clothing allowed.
  • No hats or hair nets allowed unless for religious beliefs.
  • No shorts or mini skirts allowed.
  • No shirts with offensive writing or emblems allowed.
  • No pants hanging below the waist line. 
  • No excessive holes or tears in jeans.
  • No pajamas or slippers.

Mission Statement

The DeSoto County Justice Court Judges and Clerk's Office are committed to providing quality court services with fairness, integrity, and professionalism in an expeditious and timely manner for the citizens of DeSoto County.

The Justice Court judges are committed to providing outstanding services for all citizens in a fair and impartial manner. The Clerk's Office seeks to provide equal access to justice, to improve public confidence in the courts by providing prompt, courteous service, and accessibility, and to exercise case management practices designed to facilitate the fair and timely disposition of cases.

Types of Cases Handled in Justice Court

Justice Courts have jurisdiction over small claims civil cases involving amounts of $3,500 or less, misdemeanor criminal cases, and any traffic offense that occurs in the County involving the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department or Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Justice Court judges also sign warrants, set bonds, conduct preliminary hearings in felony criminal cases, issue temporary protective orders, and issue search warrants.
