DeSoto County Supervisors took part in a ribbon cutting and tour of Medline Industries, LP massive medical supply distribution center in Southaven.
The 1.2-million square-foot facility is located on Highway 51 just north of Starlanding. When fully operational, it will create 450 new jobs. “Medline’s investment in DeSoto County speaks volumes about the quality of life here, and the quality of the workforce,” said Supervisor Lee Caldwell.
Medline is a healthcare business that manufactures and distributes medical supplies. The Southaven distribution center is a cutting-edge facility that currently ships 37,000 items a day. Steve Miller, Medline’s EVP of Supply Chain Operations, explains Medline plays a critical role in supplying medical items. “There is a complexity to deliver something as simple as exam gloves to make sure your doctor, your nurse, your healthcare professionals have it when and where they need it, each and every time.”
Desoto County and the City of Southaven both contributed $250,000 to extend Pepperchase Drive to help alleviate some of the traffic on Highway 51.
“This is my district and I’ve been so happy to see it grow,” said Supervisor Caldwell. “And boy have we grown, and now we have a problem. It’s called traffic.” Supervisor Caldwell asked to those in attendance to join the Highway 51 Coalition. “Help us get out there to get support from Jackson and Washington, D.C. to help us get some funding so we can widen this road.” Southaven Mayor Musselwhite thanked Medline for their work in the community. “Medline is already making their mark in Southaven. You’re involved, you’re reaching out to our schools, our organizations, and you are being a good corporate citizen.
During the ceremony, four long-time Medline employees were honored. Each has worked for Medline for 18-24 years.
