[ARCHIVED] Redistricting Map Approved

DeSoto County Redistricting Map 2023

The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors gave final approval to the Election District Map that takes effect January 1, 2023.  Supervisors, Constables, School Board, Election Commissioners, and Justice Court Judges are elected from each of the five election districts.

DeSoto County’s District boundaries are to be geographically redrawn every 10 years in line with the county's population as reported by the U.S. Census. Supervisors are required by law to oversee redistricting to meet the requirements of equal representation.

During a public hearing on June 6, consultant Chris Watson, with Bridge and Watson, presented four redistricting maps (Alternate 1-Alternate 4) for the public and Supervisors to consider.  Two community groups also submitted maps for consideration.

During the hearing, Hernando Alderman Andrew Miller expressed concerns over maps that moved the Hill Street area of Hernando from District 5 to District 4 and could result in polling location changes for those residents.  In response, Supervisors asked Mr. Watson to make some adjustments to Alternate 1 map.  Once those adjustments were made, the Supervisors voted unanimously to adopt the updated Alternate 1 redistricting map.

The revised map and legal description were presented and approved by Supervisors during the June 20, 2022 Board meeting. The new map goes into effect January 1, 2023.
